Heritage Project

Under the guidance of Pearl Gosney, Petersfield Arts Society is working on an exciting project at Petersfield Museum, which will reopen in October 2020.

Don Eades, a freelance photographer has donated over 100,000 photographic negatives to the museum, photographs which he took over a period of 25 years (1962 to 1987). Many of these were published in our local newspaper, The Petersfield Post. Stored in envelopes by week/year with a brief description of the contents, they are currently being sorted, initially by historical importance. Negatives of interest will be scanned into the museum’s database and will incorporate a system for searching and identifying those of import. Scanned images (around 30,000) will then be available to see in a positive format at the museum when it reopens.

Many of the photographs have been displayed at the road shows which have been touring the surrounding villages and have proved very popular, particularly with older residents.
