Welcome to the Arts Society Petersfield website.

The Society is a member of The Arts Society that was founded in 1968 as the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies. The Arts Society works to advance decorative and fine arts education and appreciation, alongside promoting the preservation of artistic heritage. It is a UK-based charity and supports a network of over 360 local societies across the country. In addition, it supports a number of societies in mainland Europe and Australasia.

The Arts Society Petersfield meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month, except in January and August, for lectures on a broad and diverse range of topics.

Our lectures are given by experienced and highly qualified lecturers who are all experts in their chosen field - a full description can be found under the Lectures tab.

To supplement the monthly lectures, Special Interest Days are arranged twice per year (Spring and Autumn) on which a subject is studied in greater depth. Please see the Special Interest section for further details.

The Society also organises visits to art galleries, museums and places of historic and artistic interest in the UK as well as an annual tour to overseas centres. To find out more, look at the Visits/Tours pages.

LATEST NEWS

Welcome to The Arts Society Petersfield.

At our June lecture, Lucia Gahlin, an expert in all things Ancient Egypt transported us back in time with her evocative words and excellent slides. It is an area seldom focussed on but once the significance of gardens in this life and the afterlife are known it is difficult not to see them as central to understanding that marvellous civilisation.

On 29 May, a group of us had the enormous pleasure of visiting Pelham House, Newton Valence and its stunning gardens on a warm and sunny day. We were the guests of Sandra and Damon De Laszlo and were very pleased to support the Charlie Waller Trust's work with our donation.

For our next lecture on 1st July, Simon Inglis will tell us all about the Art and Architecture of Historic Swimming Pools and Lidos. This will be especially relevant as Petersfield's Open Air Pool has recently been renamed a Lido.

It will be interesting to see how the highly decorated Victorian and Edwardian baths compare with today's public pools. So do join us and get in touch with Christine Rushton (membership01.tasp@gmail.com) to book your place as a guest.
